How this build came together
Completed 2026
After several years in the area with two rapidly growing boys, we faced a choice: sell up and find a home that ticked every box, or stay in the neighbourhood we loved and adapt what we had. Our love of the area — and a tough housing market — led us to explore whether a granny flat could be the answer.
We chose KiaDom over other builders for their flexibility and upfront honesty. Greg had a down-to-earth approach and was realistic about the challenges and the choices ahead, and we loved being able to look over the plans and tinker with the layout to make it our own. We wanted to maximise the space with open-plan living, plenty of natural light and disability access for elderly family members — and to future-proof it as a home our boys could live in one day, or that we could rent out if life changed.
Our favourite features are the roomy open-plan living and kitchen with its galley layout and high ceilings, and the little patio deck that is already getting plenty of use. We enjoyed every moment of the build — we photographed almost every day, and it is amazing to see how far it came from an old concrete slab in just a few months.
